1. Purpose & Value Proposition
Obol exists to decentralize and secure Ethereum staking. As more ETH is staked, the risk concentrates with a few large operators, threatening network resilience. Obol's Distributed Validator Technology (DVT) mitigates this by allowing a validator to be operated by a group of independent nodes. This eliminates single points of failure, reduces slashing risk, and distributes control, making the network more robust as it scales.
2. Technology & Architecture
Obol is not a blockchain but a "work layer" built on top of Ethereum's consensus. Its core is the Distributed Validator Protocol, powered by a middleware client called Charon. Charon enables a cluster of machines to collectively act as one validator using a threshold signature scheme. This means no single operator holds the full key or can single-handedly cause a validator to fail, significantly improving uptime and security.

The OBOL token, launched in May 2025, is the centerpiece of the project's shift to community governance.
