MoonPay now accepts Discover Network cards for buying and selling crypto in the US, making Discover its third major card network after Visa and Mastercard.
Crypto News
Crypto payments firm MoonPay has added a new way to pay. It now accepts Discover Network cards in the US, the firm announced on July 23. Users can use those cards to buy and sell crypto.
Discover is now the third major US card network on the platform, joining Visa and Mastercard. MoonPay also supports several other payment methods, including Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and Venmo, in addition to bank transfers and regional payment rails.
Discover has stayed on the edges of crypto for years. It has done fewer crypto deals than Visa or Mastercard, both of which have worked with crypto firms for a long time.
Some crypto platforms already take Discover cards. These include CEX.IO and Sardine, a partner of BitPay's crypto marketplace. MoonPay's news is about something more specific. It covers support for the Discover Network payment rail, which moves transactions between cardholders and merchants.
The change opens MoonPay to eligible cards on the network. Still, not every card will work for crypto; that decision rests with the bank that issued the card. Each bank sets its own rules on which transactions it allows.
Why MoonPay Keeps Adding Payment Options
Richard Harrison leads banking and payments partnerships at MoonPay. He said each new payment method helps close a gap at checkout. "Every payment method we add removes a reason someone doesn't convert at checkout," he said. "We've built MoonPay around a simple principle: every way people already pay should work for crypto. We're enabling Discover Network cardholders to pay for crypto the way they pay for everything else."
The move follows a big shift in Discover's ownership. Capital One Financial closed its $35 billion purchase of Discover Financial Services in 2025. It first announced that deal in February 2024. Capital One also bought fintech firm Brex in April 2026 for $5.15 billion. Brex supports stablecoin payments.

How MoonPay Has Grown
MoonPay started in 2019. It helps people and businesses move money between regular currencies and digital assets. The company says it has more than 30 million customers worldwide. It also serves more than 500 enterprise clients across crypto and fintech.
The firm has pushed into artificial intelligence as well. Earlier in 2026, it launched MoonPay Agents, a noncustodial system for AI-driven crypto transactions that lets AI agents create wallets and run transactions on their own.
MoonPay's backers include Tiger Global Management and Coatue. Celebrity investors Justin Bieber and Paris Hilton also took part. The company raised a $555 million Series A round in 2021, which valued it at $3.4 billion. In 2025, MoonPay secured a $200 million revolving credit line from Galaxy. At the time, it said it ended 2024 profitable and cash-flow positive. Net revenue had risen 112% from the year before.
