Wallets publicly attributed to Trump Media and Technology Group sent 2,628 Bitcoin (BTC) to Crypto(dot)com on Aug. 2. The transfer, split across two on-chain transactions, was worth approximately $165 million at the time. A company spokesperson confirmed the coins were moved but not sold.

Blockchain analytics firm Lookonchain flagged the transactions on X and described them as a probable sale. On-chain data can only confirm that funds moved to Crypto(dot)com but cannot confirm what happened to those funds afterward. Crypto(dot)com is one of two custodians Trump Media selected when it established its BTC treasury in May 2025, alongside Anchorage Digital.

Two Transactions, One Denial

The two transfers consisted of a first transaction worth 2,429 BTC and a second worth 198.9 BTC, per Arkham Intelligence data. After the transfers cleared, wallets publicly tagged as Trump Media held roughly 4,261 BTC worth approximately $268 million. That figure is nearly identical to the 4,260.73 BTC Trump Media disclosed as collateral for its convertible notes in its Q1 2026 SEC filing. The company stated in that filing it cannot distribute or withdraw those coins until certain loan conditions are satisfied, with all restrictions expiring no later than May 29, 2028.
Lookonchain estimates Trump Media originally acquired 11,542 BTC at an average price of $118,522 per coin. Counting both the Aug. 2 transfers and earlier movements, the firm has now moved a reported total of 7,281 BTC over the past seven months. Lookonchain calculated an average effective transfer price of $74,855 per coin, for a combined value near $545 million. The most recent prior movement was on May 22, when wallets attributed to Trump Media sent a combined 2,650 BTC worth about $205 million to Crypto(dot)com.

Trump Media's DJT shares have declined more than 25% over the same seven-month period. The stock closed on Aug. 1 at $9.86, down 5% on the day. It slipped a further 0.8% to $9.78 in after-hours trading, per Yahoo Finance data. BTC itself briefly fell below $63,000 before recovering to near $63,065 on the morning of Aug. 2.

Truth API Draws Scrutiny

The transfers arrived alongside the rollout of Trump Media's new paid data service, called the Truth API. The service offers companies real-time access to posts from high-profile Truth Social accounts, including President Trump's, for up to $100,000 per month. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Adam Schiff wrote to the SEC on July 28 describing the offering as "an outrageous abuse of the President's office for his personal benefit." They also raised concerns the service could facilitate insider trading. Trump Media separately withdrew its applications for a Truth Social Bitcoin ETF and a combined Bitcoin ETF and Ethereum ETF in May.

Citadel Securities invested $400 million in Crypto(dot)com at a $20 billion valuation, as previously reported. Trump Media has also announced a planned shareholder rewards token to be distributed through Crypto(dot)com.
