Japanese game dev Gumi is launching an $18.3M crypto fund with SBI Financial Services, backed by Daiwa Securities Group, targeting BTC and major altcoins.
Japanese mobile game developer Gumi and SBI Financial Services are launching a jointly managed crypto fund, with backing from Daiwa Securities Group and other investors.
The fund carries a target size of 3 billion yen, equivalent to about $18.3 million, and is set to begin operating on Aug. 1, 2026. It is managed through SBI Crypto Fund, a joint venture in which SBI Financial Services holds a 51% stake and Gumi's subsidiary gC Labs holds 49%.
Fund Strategy and Regulatory Backdrop
Japan does not currently allow crypto ETFs, and Gumi's framing of the fund as positioning for that possibility reflects broader expectations within Japan's financial industry that the rules may eventually shift.

Gumi's Crypto Balance Sheet
Crypto assets have grown on Gumi's balance sheet over the past year. As of April 30, the company held 14.13 billion yen ($86.6 million) in crypto assets, up from 7.58 billion yen ($46.5 million) at the same point in 2025, according to its annual report.
