Binance has launched a Bitcoin-backed borrowing product called Lite Loan, which lets eligible users borrow up to 1,000 USDT without selling their Bitcoin (BTC). The product went live on Aug. 4 at 10:00 am UTC.

A promotional service fee of 0.5% applies until Sept. 3, 2026, at which point the standard fee rises to 1%.

What Prompted the Launch

Recently commissioned research from crypto lender Ledn conducted across 1,244 crypto holders in the US and Australia found that 88% would consider borrowing against their digital assets, while only 14% currently do. The researchers attributed the gap to concerns about price volatility and the risk of forced liquidations.

The most direct contrast with Binance's existing loan suite is with Fixed Rate Loans, which currently require a minimum loan of 50,000 USDT. Lite Loan sets the ceiling at 1,000 USDT, placing it firmly in small retail territory.

Flexible Rate Loans carry continuous loan-to-value (LTV) monitoring, meaning collateral can be liquidated at any time if the ratio breaches the threshold.

How the Product Works

During the initial 30-day term, BTC price movements do not trigger liquidation. This differs from Binance's standard loan products, where LTV is monitored continuously. Users pledge BTC from their spot or funding wallet, and Binance places that collateral into Simple Earn Flexible Products, where it continues to earn yield while the loan is active.

If the loan is not repaid within 30 days, it enters an overdue period of up to another 30 days. During this phase, interest accrues at 36% annualized, calculated daily.

A margin call is triggered if the LTV ratio reaches 85%, and liquidation occurs at 91%. If the loan remains unpaid after the full 60-day window, the pledged BTC is liquidated to cover the outstanding balance, regardless of the LTV ratio at that point.

Repayments can be made early or in partial amounts without a penalty. Borrowed USDT can be used for trading on Binance or for payments through Binance Pay. The product is restricted to verified Binance master accounts that meet the exchange's compliance requirements and hold enough BTC to secure the loan. Binance noted that eligibility varies by jurisdiction and did not provide a full country list.

Binance currently lists the Lite Loan liquidation fee at 0%, though its announcement states that the rate is subject to change. VIP Loans, the third tier in Binance's existing lending lineup, target institutional and high-volume users with customized terms, multiple collateral types, and higher borrowing limits.
