Strategy (MSTR) sold 1,638 Bitcoin (BTC) during the week ending Aug. 2, raising $104.73 million from the transaction. The company disclosed the sale in an 8-K filing submitted to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Aug. 3. The coins were sold at an average net price of $63,957 each.

The sale reduced Strategy's total BTC holdings to 842,138 coins. The company originally acquired its entire stack for $63.51 billion, or an average of $75,419 per coin. Its current holdings sit 5,225 BTC below the peak of 847,363 BTC it held in June 2026.

Proceeds Divided Between Dividends and a Buyback

Strategy directed $52.4 million of the sale proceeds toward paying dividends on its preferred stock. The other $52.3 million went toward repurchasing shares of its STRC preferred stock. The total STRC repurchase came to $81.2 million, covering 912,143 shares, with the remaining $28.9 million in buyback funding sourced from common share sales.

This was the second STRC repurchase under a $1 billion program Strategy launched on June 29. The first purchase, worth $25 million, took place the prior week. After this latest transaction, $893.8 million of authorization remains under that program. Strategy said the trades tightened STRC's Bitcoin credit spread by five basis points and extended its USD duration by 57 days, bringing it to 2.3 years.

The company declared it will hold STRC's annual dividend rate at 12%, paid in semi-monthly installments of $0.50 per share. It said it will not recommend a rate reduction until STRC trades consistently near its stated $100 par value.

Share Sales Top Up the Dollar Reserve

Alongside the BTC sale, Strategy sold 3,011,361 MSTR common shares for $290.6 million. Of that amount, $250 million was added directly to the company's US dollar reserve, bringing it to $4 billion. The reserve is sized to cover at least 12 months of the firm's preferred dividend and interest obligations, which total roughly $1.76 billion per year.

Strategy first sold BTC at the end of May 2026, breaking a policy it had held since December 2022. It adopted a formal capital framework in June 2026 authorizing disposals of up to $1.25 billion in BTC to fund dividends or replenish the reserve. Combined with $216 million sold in July, the company has now used approximately $321 million of that capacity. BTC was trading near $62,600 on Aug. 3, with MSTR shares down about 1.9% in premarket activity.
